Making the decision

We all secretly hope our pets will live a long, full and healthy life and pass away peacefully in their sleep. Unfortunately, this is not the norm and more often than not, it is our responsibility as owners, to make the decision to end our pet’s suffering and let them go.

Euthanasia means ‘good death’, which might seem like a contradiction in terms, however, it is often the kindest and bravest last thing we can do for our treasured pets. It’s a way to ensure this time is as peaceful, gentle, and dignified as possible.

How do I know when it is time?

Knowing this will be one of the hardest decisions you will ever have to make, we have a quality of life assessment tool, which may help you to decide when the time is right.

Pet cremation services

Apex Vets in Denny, Falkirk will always respect your wishes surrounding your pet’s last appointment. We have a pet bereavement councillor who offers free consultations to support our bereaved clients.

We use two extremely reliable and professional pet crematoria that we have personally worked with over several years and we can vouch that they will take the utmost care of pets entrusted to them.

There are a number of options for laying your pet to rest.

  • You can bury pets at home in your own garden, there is no legislation against or preventing you from doing this. We can supply biodegradable coffin boxes for your ceremony at home.
  • We can arrange for pets to be cremated individually,. Just as would happen with people.  Your pet’s ashes can then be returned to you in a box to scatter, an urn or a casket. There are many options available, and our compassionate team will walk you through the choices available.
  • We can arrange for pets to be cremated as part of a group and to have their ashes left with the crematorium if owners do not wish their pets remains to be returned to them.

We have resources available to help parents explain the process to grieving children as well as adults and have trained pet bereavement councillors onsite.
